Chicago – April 6, 2026 – Winston & Strawn LLP announced today the addition of Ashley Chung as a partner in the Chicago office. Ashley rejoins the firm’s Litigation Department as a member of its Appellate & Critical Motions practice after serving as an Assistant U.S. Attorney.
As the former Deputy Chief of Appeals at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois, Ashley supervised the Criminal Division’s appellate section, edited and authored dozens of Seventh Circuit briefs, and argued multiple appeals, while also first- and second-chairing jury and bench trials, suppression hearings, sentencings, and other key litigation in the district courts. During her tenure at the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Ashley prosecuted more than 50 cases, including public corruption, financial fraud, money laundering, child exploitation, and violent crime matters. She oversaw and determined strategy from the investigative stage through charging, pre-trial litigation, plea negotiations or trials, and sentencings.
“I am thrilled to come back to Winston and contribute to its nationally recognized Appellate & Critical Motions group,” said Ashley. “I look forward to collaborating with the firm’s deep bench of talented litigators to deliver thoughtful, high-impact legal solutions.”
Prior to her public service, Ashley worked on complex commercial litigation, white-collar and regulatory-facing matters, and internal investigations, as a litigation associate at Winston. She also previously clerked for judges in the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit and the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
“We are delighted to welcome Ashley back to Winston’s Chicago office,” said Bill O’Neil, the Chicago office managing partner. “Ashley’s experience as an AUSA and Deputy Chief of Appeals meaningfully enhances our capabilities in the Chicago market, reinforcing the firm’s reputation and depth of knowledge for appellate work.”
“Ashley’s broad litigation experience and deep understanding of appellate strategy make her a natural fit for our Appellate & Critical Motions group,” said Litigation Department Co-Chairs Linda Coberly and Brett Johnson. “Her ability to deliver sophisticated legal analysis and persuasive advocacy at every stage of litigation will further strengthen our ability to help clients navigate their most complex and high stakes matters.”
