Devonshires strengthens Construction team with appointment of Partner Sean Garbutt
We’re excited to announce that Sean Garbutt has joined Devonshires as a Partner in our Construction team.
Sean joins Devonshires from Gowling WLG and will be based in our Birmingham office. His appointment reflects Devonshires’ continued investment in our national construction offering and strengthens our ability to support clients across the Midlands and beyond on increasingly complex construction and building safety matters.
Sean is a highly experienced construction disputes lawyer, advising clients across the full breadth of the construction industry. He has acted for employers, main contractors, registered providers, national and regional housebuilders, specialist subcontractors, consultants, insurers, insolvency practitioners and end-users. His experience acting for all sides of the industry gives him valuable insight into the commercial drivers and strategic considerations that underpin complex disputes.
He has particular expertise in matters arising under the Building Safety Act and associated regulations and has acted on a number of Remediation Orders and Remediation Contribution Order matters. He also advises registered providers and funders on managing historic and future building safety liabilities in connection with acquisitions, disposals and development projects.
Alongside his building safety practice, Sean advises on a broad range of construction disputes, including claims relating to delay, defects, payment and insolvency. His experience spans projects across the housing, commercial, infrastructure, logistics, rail and energy sectors, as well as advising on issues arising from long-term PFI and PPP contracts.
Mark London, Head of Construction at Devonshires, said:
“We are delighted to welcome Sean to Devonshires. He has an outstanding reputation in construction disputes and building safety, and his experience will further strengthen the depth of expertise within our team. Sean’s appointment also enhances our presence in Birmingham, allowing us to provide even greater support to our clients in and around the Midlands, while continuing to grow our national Construction practice.”
Sean Garbutt said:
“I’m delighted to be joining Devonshires and becoming part of such a well-established and highly regarded Construction team. The firm’s reputation for advising on complex construction disputes and building safety matters, together with its strong relationships across the real estate and social housing sectors, makes it a compelling opportunity. I look forward to working with colleagues across the firm and supporting our clients in Birmingham, across the Midlands and throughout the UK.”
Sean’s appointment is the latest investment in our 40-strong Construction team, which advises clients throughout the lifecycle of construction and infrastructure projects, from procurement and contract drafting through to dispute resolution, building safety and regulatory compliance.
