Michael E. Smith to lead appellate advocacy and strategic trial support
LAS VEGAS, October 7, 2026 — Isso Reeves Smith Whitbeck LLP today announced the introduction of its Civil Appellate Practice Group, led by Michael E. Smith, Esq. The group will provide focused representation in civil appeals and strategic support for businesses, individuals, and trial counsel.
The practice will address the legal and procedural questions that can determine the course of a civil dispute, from preserving issues in the trial court to evaluating a judgment and presenting the case on appeal. Its work will include appellate case assessment, record review, issue selection, written advocacy, and oral argument, together with post-trial motion practice and consultation with trial teams.
Under Smith’s leadership, the group will work with clients and referring counsel to assess appellate options, identify the strongest legal arguments, and align the approach with the client’s objectives. The practice is designed to support both direct engagements and collaboration with existing litigation counsel.
Smith’s background encompasses business and corporate law, securities compliance, real estate, contract matters, and business and consumer disputes. He earned his J.D. from the William S. Boyd School of Law and his B.A. from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Before entering legal practice, he worked as a consultant in securities compliance and corporate governance. He has also provided pro bono legal services to Southern Nevada seniors.
“Effective appellate advocacy begins with rigorous analysis and a precise understanding of the questions the court must decide,” said Smith. “Our focus will be on clear writing, thorough preparation, and practical advice that helps clients make informed decisions at every stage.”
