National law firm Foley & Lardner announced today it received the Elite Excellence Marketing Initiative of the Year Award for its 2003 National Directors Institute campaign. The award was presented at the Legal Marketing Awards ceremony sponsored by Elite Information Group during the Glasser Legalworks 2004 Marketing Partner Forum in Orlando, Fla., in January.

Foley & Lardner’s 2003 National Directors Institute was held in Chicago in April and drew high-level executives from nearly 200 public and private companies throughout the U.S. At the event, the firm unveiled its study “The Increased Financial and Non-Financial Costs of Staying Public,” which has been featured in more than 225 newspapers and magazines in the past year.

“Our 2003 National Directors Institute brought together many of the leaders who are shaping governance reform in the era of Sarbanes-Oxley, while our study presented a first look at the cost to corporate America’s bottom line,” said Steven R. Barth, Foley & Lardner partner and National Directors Institute program chair. “We are honored to receive the Glasser Award in recognition of our leading-edge discussion on the increasing level of corporate governance”

The Elite Excellence in Legal Marketing Awards recognize excellence and innovation in law firm marketing. A panel of judges comprised of previous winners and legal marketing professionals selected the winners after rating the finalists on criteria including demonstrable marketing results, innovation, communication strategies and sophistication.

“The idea of conducting research and releasing the findings at the conference was brilliant. I’m sure this attracted more executives to attend,” said Larry Bodine, judge and PM Forum regional director for North America. “In the final analysis, it worked as a marketing effort by bringing in new business. A superb job overall.”

Foley & Lardner’s 2004 National Directors Institute on May 19th at the Ritz Carlton Chicago will address the topic “Corporate Governance Reform—What’s Working and What Isn’t.” Former chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission and WorldCom corporate monitor Richard Breeden will be the keynote speaker.
