Thompson & Knight Responds in the Aftermath of Ike, Client Task Force Formed; Firm’s Houston Office Functional

HOUSTON (LAWFUEL) — Hurricane Ike severely affected the businesses and infrastructure of Houston. However, the downtown office of the global law firm of Thompson & Knight LLP sustained no damage and has fully functional utilities and Internet service as of Monday morning.

The Firm is forming a comprehensive task force to address Hurricane Ike issues such as insurance claims, landlord-tenant provisions, and labor and employment matters. “We know there will be a high volume of questions, requests, and claims because of Ike and are confident that Thompson & Knight has the resources to fully respond to those needs,” says Dallas Parker, managing partner of the Firm’s Houston office. “I know we can count on outstanding support from the attorneys and staff in our other offices in helping our clients and our workforce in Houston manage during these difficult times.”

A number of attorneys are in the Firm’s offices in Three Allen Center today, while others are now able to access e-mail and work remotely from other locations in the Houston area or from the Firm’s other Texas offices.

“I’m very pleased that we have been able to move quickly to resume a level of normal business operations,” says Parker. “Our attorneys already have been able to respond to some pressing business demands of our clients related to the current issues in the financial markets as well as to offer counsel on matters stemming from Hurricane Ike.”

“Like thousands of others in the areas affected, many of our Houston employees are coping with the personal needs of their homes and families,” says Parker. “We are truly fortunate that, to our knowledge, none of our attorneys, support staff, or their families has sustained any life-threatening injuries. However, we are encouraging our workforce to continue working remotely and follow the direction of local and state officials in safely returning to downtown.”
