Asia – DLA Piper announced today that it will be restructuring its Asia practice.
“The staffing adjustments we are making are necessary and appropriate given the deteriorating economic climate. We are reshaping our resource structure and cost base to better align with current business activity levels as a result of the recent market downturn,” said Alastair Da Costa, Managing Director of DLA Piper Asia. “We believe such a realignment will enable us to emerge from the downturn in a much stronger position as conditions improve,” he said.
The restructure will reduce DLA Piper’s employee headcount in Asia by 54 comprising of 20 fee earners and 34 support staff. The consultation process is currently in progress and will be completed by the end of March.
“We genuinely regret the impact this will have on our people who will be affected and are providing outplacement consultation and support through the transition period,” said Da Costa.
“This decision was not taken lightly, yet we believe it is one that is strategically and commercially responsible given the existing market environment. Our focus remains very much centered around our clients, ensuring existing service levels are not compromised and that they (our clients), continue to receive the care, attention and quality legal advice they have come to expect from us,” he said.
