Former Guaranty Bank Officer and Counsel Joins Haynes and Boone Finance Practice

DALLAS (LAWFUEL) – John Podvin has joined Haynes and Boone, LLP as of counsel in the firm’s finance practice group in Dallas. Mr. Podvin’s practice will primarily focus on regulatory compliance, mergers and acquisitions, enforcement actions and litigation with respect to banks, financial institutions, and other similarly regulated entities.

“John has extensive experience in Federal and state banking laws and regulations including regulatory compliance, privacy, and related matters,” said Scott Night, chair of Haynes and Boone’s finance group. “He will be a valuable resource in advising the firm’s clients on regulatory matters and anticipated changes in the regulation of banks and other financial institutions as a result of the current economic environment.”

Mr. Podvin has more than 17 years of regulatory agency, law firm and corporate experience. He comes to Haynes and Boone from a position as deputy general counsel, chief compliance officer and chief privacy officer for the $15-billion Guaranty Bank, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Guaranty Financial Group Inc. (NYSE: GFG). There, he advised the board and management on compliance with applicable law with specific emphasis on government relations, fair lending, insider lending, affiliate transactions, legal lending limits, privacy and ethics. Mr. Podvin also participated in the formulation of key compliance policies and strategic initiatives, and acted as primary liaison for all examinations with federal bank regulators.

Before joining Guaranty, Mr. Podvin was partner in Bracewell & Patterson, LLP (now Bracewell & Giuliani, LLP). While there, Chambers USA named him among Texas’ leading communications and technology partners in 2003 and 2004. He was listed as a Texas Super Lawyer from 2004-2007.
