WASHINGTON, D.C. - Legal news, law news, law firm news & research at LAWFUEL The Community Relations Service (CRS) of the U.S. Department of Justice will sponsor an Arab, Muslim, and Sikh Awareness and Protocol Seminar for law enforcement, local officials, and community leaders on Wednesday, August 11, 2004, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The seminar will be held at the Hollywood Beach Community Cultural Center, 1301 S. Ocean Drive, Hollywood, Florida. The seminar will be cosponsored by the Hollywood Police Department, the Office of the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the Florida Commission on Human Relations, and the Asian-American Advisory Board of the Miami-Dade Community Relations Board. The first session is open to the public; however, all other sessions are open to invited participants only. Since 2001, CRS has sponsored hundreds of community dialogues and forums to educate citizens about the Arab, Muslim, and Sikh cultures to address backlash and harassment directed at members of those communities. The seminars are designed for law enforcement and other first responders to gain a better understanding of these cultures, to develop techniques for working collectively, and to improve communication with people of Arab, Muslim, and Sikh communities. The cultural awareness presentations will be made by members of these communities. CRS is a unique federal agency dedicated to preventing and resolving racial and ethnic conflicts.
