Elliott Levitas and Miles Alexander Recognized for Longstanding Friendship

Kilpatrick Stockton Partners Elliott Levitas and Miles Alexander were recently recognized by Senior Vice President and General Counsel of Emory University, Kent Alexander and his wife, Diane. Kent, the son of Miles and Elaine Alexander and Godson of Elliott and Barbara Levitas donated a “friendship bench” near Alabama Hall in honor of the two 1952 Emory Graduates, who have remained close friends and colleagues since 1948 when they met in their freshman year, while throwing a football on the lawn of Alabama Hall.

During college, both men were actively involved in a wide variety of leadership roles at Emory and as young underclassmen, won Emory’s first All Campus Debate Tournament, in which they challenged racial segregation at Emory. Both men were also elected to Phi Beta Kappa and ODK. After being elected to Emory’s senior honor society and winning a Rhodes scholarship to Oxford, Mr. Levitas returned to law school at Emory, earning his J.D. in 1956, where he graduated first in his class and was on the Law Review. Mr. Alexander graduated with honors from Harvard University School of Law in 1955 where he thereafter taught.

Mr. Alexander is senior partner in Kilpatrick Stockton’s Intellectual Property Group and is co-chair of the firm. Mr. Levitas focuses his practice on governmental relations and litigation and works in both Kilpatrick Stockton’s Atlanta and Washington D.C. offices. He is currently acting as lead appellate counsel and part of the litigation team in one of the most significant pending cases in the United States, representing Native Americans in their suit to recover billions of dollars in mismanaged trust funds.
Both men have been recognized as prominent leaders in the legal and general community. Mr. Alexander received the Award of Distinction from Emory College; has been named each year to The Best Lawyers in America® for Corporate, Intellectual Property, and Antitrust Law; was recognized as one of Atlanta’s “Top 10 Lawyers” in Atlanta Magazine earlier this year; and in 2004 was ranked by his peers in the international IP bar as among the very top trademark lawyers in the world.
Mr. Levitas served for ten years as a member of the United States Congress; was chosen by Georgia Trend as one of Georgia’s “100 Most Influential” people; was honored by Emory Law School as a Distinguished Alumni; received the Anti-Defamation League’s Lifetime Achieve Award, and was named as an honorary member of the Order of the Coif.
