WASHINGTON, Dec. 14 2004 – LAWFUEL – First in law news — King & Spalding LLP, a leading international law firm, earned an important victory for U.S. bedroom furniture
manufacturers on December 10 when the U.S. International Trade Commission
(ITC) ruled that the domestic industry has been injured by low-priced imports
from China that are “dumped” in the U.S. market, unfairly skewing the
competitive marketplace for these goods. The ruling opens the door for the
imposition of antidumping duties on Chinese bedroom furniture later this
month.

“This is a critical victory for U.S. furniture manufacturers and the U.S.
economy, as it helps keep jobs in United States and stem the exodus to China,”
said Joe Dorn, the King & Spalding partner who led the team representing the
furniture manufacturers. “This antidumping investigation was the largest ever
undertaken against imports from China, and our international trade team is
gratified to have helped contribute to this victory for our clients.”

The case was opposed by the Chinese government, the Chinese furniture
industry and several U.S. retailers and producers. The U.S. Department of
Commerce is expected to issue the final antidumping order in the case by the
end of the year.

King & Spalding’s international trade group, based in its Washington, D.C.
and London offices, is comprised of nearly 20 lawyers, who focus their
practice on trade remedy cases, World Trade Organization dispute settlement
proceedings, customs law, Section 337 cases, export controls, market access
issues, and trade policy and legislation. The group has handled some of the
most high-profile anti-dumping and other trade remedy cases in the past year,
including those involving U.S. imports of furniture, DRAMS, plastic bags,
magnesium, and gray portland cement.
