Lanier Law Firm Wins $2 Million Settlement in Texas Auto Injury Claim

HOUSTON – Two women from Midland, Texas, have reached a $2 million settlement over injuries sustained in a devastating car crash that happened earlier this year.

On Feb. 29, 2012, Virginia Moore was driving on 42nd Street in Odessa, Texas, with Loraine Shamblin as a passenger. Ms. Moore was stopped at a red light when her vehicle was struck by a Ford F-150 driven by William Ward Schlittler, an employee of Odessa-based oilfield services company Enerserv Inc. As a result of the crash, Ms. Moore and Ms. Shamblin each suffered serious and permanent injuries.

Ms. Moore and Ms. Shamblin were represented by noted Houston attorneys Mark Lanier, Jud Waltman and Clay Fostel from The Lanier Law Firm. The lawsuit is Virginia Moore, et al. v. William Ward Schlittler and Enerserv Inc., No. B-133,235.

“We are extremely happy to have been able to secure this substantial settlement, which will help both Virginia and Loraine cover their considerable medical expenses,” says Mr. Lanier. “Our hope is that this case will cause other companies in the oilfield services industry to take greater care when hiring their drivers and when training them to operate their vehicles in a safe manner.”

In the lawsuit filed earlier this year in the 161st District Court in Ector County, Texas, the two women claimed that Mr. Schlittler was negligent and failed use ordinary care in the operation of his truck. The lawsuit also alleged that Enerserv was negligent in hiring Mr. Schlittler, in addition to claims that the company failed to property train and supervise him.
