7 February 2005 – LAWFUEL – The Law News Network – The UK Insolvency Lawyers’ Association (ILA) has appointed Ken Baird, a partner at international law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, as its new president. Mr. Baird started his year’s tenure as president on 5 February 2005.
Mr. Baird commented, ‘In recent years the ILA has been going from strength to strength. I am delighted to have the chance to be President at a time when the landscape in insolvency law and regulation is changing so fast’.
The ILA was formed in 1989 as a special interest group to promote the role of lawyers in the insolvency profession generally and to advance the theory and practice of insolvency administration. It provides a forum for lawyers practising insolvency law to co-operate on matters of professional interest and to represent the Association’s view to Government and to other professional bodies having an interest in insolvency practice.
‘I look forward to promoting the aims of the ILA during my time as president. The organisation has a broad membership across the legal profession, and I feel it has a real role to play in pro-actively shaping the development of law and practice in this area’, added Mr. Baird.
The annual ILA conference took place on 4 and 5 February 2005 at Dublin Castle in the Irish capital, and was attended by more than 60 delegates from the UK’s leading insolvency firms.
Mr. Baird is part of the restructuring and insolvency team at Freshfields, based in the firm’s London office. He recently advised Queens Moat Houses on the hotel group’s restructuring, one of the most complex undertaken in the UK.
