(CHICAGO) March 8, 2005 – LAWFUEL – The Law News Network – DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary US LLP announced that two senior corporate lawyers, Laurence Bronska and Andrew McCune, have become partners in the firm’s Corporate and Securities practice. Bronska and McCune, who were formerly partners at Winston and Strawn, have been named co-chairs of the Midwest Private Equity Practice. Both will be based in the firm’s Chicago office, along with Peter Lawrence, a corporate associate who is also joining the firm from Winston and Strawn.
The addition of the three lawyers in Chicago represents the latest effort by the firm to grow its national private equity and related fund formation practice. Last month, DLA Piper announced that four private equity and fund formation lawyers had joined its Boston office from Testa, Hurwitz & Thibeault. DLA Piper’s Private Equity practice group is comprised of more than 70 lawyers in offices throughout the US.
“Larry and Andrew have each cultivated a high-level of experience representing private equity funds and other clients pursuing investment opportunities in the middle market,” said Jay Smith, co-chair of the Corporate and Securities group. “We are delighted to have them as our partners. They are a valuable addition to our growing private equity practice.”
Bronska concentrates his practice in private equity and mezzanine investments, mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, corporate finance, and general corporate matters. He represents individual investors, publicly and privately held businesses, and funded and unfunded private equity groups on a broad variety of domestic and international divestitures, acquisitions, leveraged buyouts, and venture capital and mezzanine investments and financings.
Bronska received a B.B.A. from the University of Michigan in 1984 and a J.D. from Boston University in 1987.
McCune focuses his practice on private equity, corporate transactions, corporate financings and securities matters. He represents sponsors, purchasers and sellers in public and private mergers, acquisitions, and investments in diverse industries and market segments. His private equity market experience encompasses numerous domestic and international leveraged transactions involving financial as well as strategic parties. McCune’s finance and securities experience includes domestic and international public offerings, as well as private placements of debt and equity.
McCune received an A.B., summa cum laude, from Washington University in 1986 and a J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School in 1989.
Lawrence focuses on private equity, mezzanine, and venture capital investments; mergers and acquisitions; divestitures; corporate finance; and general corporate matters. He represents funded and unfunded private equity groups, publicly and privately held businesses, and individual investors.
Lawrence received a B.A., cum laude, from the University of Notre Dame in 1994 and a J.D., summa cum laude, from the University of Illinois College of Law in 1997.
“We are very enthusiastic about this group joining our corporate practice here,” said Allen J. Ginsburg, managing partner of the firm’s Chicago office. “Their impressive experience representing clients in private equity transactions demonstrates our commitment to taking our private equity practice from coast-to-coast and will complement the corporate practice in the Chicago office.”
