KILPATRICK STOCKTON PARTNER APPOINTED TO THE APPELLATE RULES COMMITTEE OF THE NORTH CAROLINA BAR ASSOCIATION
WINSTON-SALEM (JULY 18) — Kilpatrick Stockton today announces the appointment of Partner Adam Charnes as a member of the Appellate Rules Committee of the North Carolina Bar Association. Mr. Charnes will serve a one-year term beginning July 2005.
Mr. Charnes has extensive experience as an appellate litigator. He has handled appeals in numerous federal and state appellate courts throughout the nation involving issues as diverse as antitrust law, employment law, telecommunications regulation, environmental law, and constitutional law. He also represents clients in complex commercial and constitutional litigation in state and federal trial courts.
Mr. Charnes received his J.D. in 1991 from Harvard Law School magna cum laude, where he was an Executive Editor of the Harvard Law Review and received the Sears Prize in 1989 for finishing first in his class after the first year. He received his undergraduate degree from Princeton University, summa cum laude, in 1988, and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
Following law school, Mr. Charnes served as a law clerk to Supreme Court Justice Anthony M. Kennedy and to Judge J. Harvie Wilkinson III of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. Before joining Kilpatrick Stockton, he served as the Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General for the Office of Legal Policy at the United States Department of Justice, where he was responsible for various legal policy matters, including counter-terrorism, criminal justice, and civil justice reform, and for assisting with the selection and confirmation of federal judges. In July 2003, he received the Attorney General’s Distinguished Service Award.
