Lawfuel.com – The Attorney Announcement Service
WASHINGTON, D.C., November 10, 2009 — Winston & Strawn LLP is pleased to announce that Gregory F. Jacob, a partner in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office, will be honored today by the national child advocacy organization First Star for his exemplary pro bono work advocating on behalf of physically and sexually abused children. The award will be presented at the organization’s annual Shine the Light on Children’s Rights event held at Washington, D.C.’s Lounge.
“Greg’s dedication to advocacy on behalf of abused children sets a powerful example for all of our lawyers and I am extremely pleased to see him receive this great honor,” said Dan K. Webb, chairman of Winston & Strawn.
Jacob regularly advocates for children who are victims of physical or sexual abuse, providing pro bono services through the national nonprofit organization Justice for Children. He received the Friend of Children Award in 2005, and has won groundbreaking appeals resulting in increased protections for abused children in both Maryland (Fox v. Wills, 2006) and Hawaii (Doe v. Doe, 2009).
“Being a lawyer carries with it a responsibility to serve the larger community and provide a voice for those who have none,” said Jacob. “Protecting abused children is something I have remained committed to throughout my career, and I am honored to be recognized by an organization that shares this same dedication.”
At Winston & Strawn, Jacob focuses his practice on labor and employment law. Prior to joining the firm, he served in several high-profile positions in the federal government, including at the White House, Department of Justice, and Department of Labor. Most recently, he served as Solicitor of Labor, the third-ranking official in the Department of Labor. In this position, Mr. Jacob oversaw more than 600 employees, including 425 attorneys, and broadly managed the department’s most important litigation under more than 180 federal labor and employment laws.
First Star is a national public charity established in 1999 to strengthen the rights and improve the lives of America’s abused and neglected children through education, public policy, legislative reform and litigation.
