SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 21 – LAWFUEL – The Law News Network — A team of 45 attorneys across six different offices at Morrison & Foerster LLP have produced the Helping Handbook, a 189-page overview of some of the legal issues faced by individuals and businesses on the Gulf Coast affected by Hurricane Katrina and the damage that ensued. The Handbook is targeted to individuals, families, and small
businesses in Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi.

The Handbook’s sections include:
– FEMA Assistance
– Housing
– Personal Finances
– Government Benefits
– Taxes
– Replacing Lost Documents
– Your Job
– Insurance
– Death
– Education
– Immigration
– Telephone and Internet Service
– Victims of Crime
– Veterans Resources
– Pets and Animals
– Mental Health Resources
– Small Businesses

– Other Resources

This Handbook follows a tradition at Morrison & Foerster of providing
valuable and practical information to those in need during and after a crisis.
The firm also produced helping handbooks for small business owners and
individuals after the 9/11 tragedy and the California wildfires, which were
widely distributed and translated into several languages.
This project was done in conjunction with the Center for Pro Bono, a
project of the ABA Standing Committee on Pro Bono and Public Service. This
Helping Handbook is currently available on the web (in PDF format) at
