New York, NY (September 20, 2005) – LAWFUEL – The Law News Network – Debevoise & Plimpton LLP counsel Ellen Lieberman has been named Chair of the American Bar Association (ABA) Business Law Section’s Committee on State Regulation of Securities. The committee monitors and disseminates timely information on blue sky law – tracking U.S. state and Canadian provincial blue sky laws, rules, policies and enforcement, and federal securities law to the extent it impacts on state law. The committee also follows and comments on policies of the North American Securities Administrators Association, the umbrella organization of state securities regulators, and works through committee members directly with various states.
Ms. Lieberman is a member of Debevoise’s Securities, Mergers and Acquisitions, and Investment Company Practice Groups. Her practice focuses on state securities or “blue sky” laws, Hart-Scott-Rodino transactional filings and other regulatory areas. She is a member of the House of Delegates of the New York State Bar Association and has served as a member of its Executive Committee. Ms. Lieberman is also a member of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York and has served as a member of its Committee on Legal Education and Admission to the Bar. In addition, she is a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation and the New York Bar Foundation and served as a member of the House of Delegates of the American Bar Association. Ms. Lieberman joined Debevoise in 1988 and became Counsel in 1989. She received her B.S. cum laude from Columbia University in 1964, where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and her J.D. cum laude from Pace University Law School in 1980, where she was the Casenotes and Comments Editor for the Pace University Law Review.
