Winstead’s Fundraiser in The Woodlands Raises Over $40,000 for Women’s Shelter

The Woodlands, Texas, Nov. 10, 2010 – Winstead PC attorneys from The Woodlands Office hosted their second annual community outreach event, successfully raising over $40,000 to benefit the Montgomery County Women’s Center (MCWC). The event, “Evening at the Fazio,” was held at Carlton Woods – The Fazio Clubhouse.

According to Managing Shareholder Jeff Harder, “This year, Winstead included a million dollar Hole in One contest, a putting contest, and a silent auction. One of the attendees, Houston attorney Steve Naumann, won $10,000 by sinking a hole-in-one at the event during the qualifying round. Rather than keep the entire prize, he generously donated half to the MCWC.”

The MCWC is a private, non-profit organization serving the victims and survivors of
family violence, sexual assault, stalking, and sexual abuse in Montgomery and Harris counties. By integrating the insured golf competition into the social event, Winstead significantly increased the amount of money it raised for the women’s center from their inaugural event the year before. The money—including the $5,000 of winnings Naumann donated—will be put to good use.

According to Sarah Raleigh, executive director of the center, “We built transitional housing designed for women as they come out of shelter with their children,” she explains. “They can stay for up to 24 months as they transition off assistance programs, go back to school, get jobs and move forward with a violence-free life.”

Harder, Naumann, Raleigh and other representatives from MCWC, as well as Mancil Davis, known as the “King of Aces” for his record number of holes in one and who also helped Harder in planning the event, all assembled at the MCWC headquarters this past week, as Winstead presented the check to Naumann (see photo).

Plans are already underway for Winstead’s 2011 community event. “We want to make it even better next year,” Harder explains. “Word will spread in the community about somebody getting a hole in one, which may lead to a standing room only crowd next year. We’ll probably tweak things a bit, just to keep it fresh, but we expect next year’s event to be an even bigger success.”
