NEW YORK, November 30, 2005 — LAWFUEL – The Law News Network – Maureen Scannell Bateman, a partner in the New York and Boston offices of Holland & Knight, will be awarded the prestigious Women’s Leadership Award at Manhattanville College’s Ninth Annual Award Gala. The black-tie event will be held on November 30th at the Metropolitan Club and all proceeds will benefit the Manhattanville College Scholarship Fund.

The Women’s Leadership Award recognizes women who have served as role models for ethically and socially responsible leadership. Maureen Bateman (class of ’64) joins a distinguished group of former recipients that include former U.S. Senator Elizabeth Dole; political and news analyst Cokie Roberts; CNN anchor Paula Zahn and President and CEO of Lifetime Entertainment Services Carole Black.

Proceeds from the Women’s Leadership Dinner provide scholarship support to young women who otherwise might not be able to benefit from a Manhattanville education. Since the award’s inception, more than $2 million has been raised for scholarships.

Prior to joining Holland & Knight, Maureen Bateman was general counsel for two American banking institutions, U.S. Trust and State Street Bank. She is active in a number of community organizations and sits on several Boards including the Boston Symphony Orchestra as well as Entergy Corporation, one of the nation’s largest energy producers. Ms. Bateman is also a director of the Catholic Schools’ Foundation of Boston and the Boston Bar Foundation. Maureen previously served as a trustee of Manhattanville College and was Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Fordham University.

Ms. Bateman is a partner in Holland & Knight’s Private Wealth Services Section. Her practice focuses on dispute resolution and fiduciary law. She currently resides in Wellesley, Massachusetts and New York, New York with her husband, Frank Bateman, and their son.
