NEW YORK, December 6, 2005 – LAWFUEL – The Law News Network – Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP will help raise funds for The Childrens Storefront, an independent, tuition-free school in Harlem serving pre-school through eighth grade, by sponsoring the third annual Mens Mentoring Art Exhibit and Cocktail Reception. The exhibit, to be held December 8 at Orricks New York office, is part of the firm?s expanded commitment to help the communities in which it works.
The art show, titled ?Artists of the Future, will feature the paintings and photographs of 12 students from the school. Proceeds from the sale of admission tickets and art works will be donated to the Men?s Mentoring Program. This program, which involves job shadowing, interviewing skills and an entrepreneurial project for seventh and eighth grade students, provides experiences that expand the students? horizons by building personal expectations and skills that will assist them in their life choices and reaching their goals.

?The Children?s Storefront and its dedicated staff motivate and inspire the school’s students to reach for their potential,” said litigation partner Lauren Elliot. ?It is an honor for Orrick to be associated with an institution that makes such a significant contribution to the lives of children from low-income families in our community.?
Orrick has been working with The Children?s Storefront since 2003. This past summer, the firm sponsored a street fair (organized by its summer associates) to celebrate the students? last day of summer school. Orrick also provides direct financial contributions, books for the children on their birthdays and volunteer work including, pro bono legal assistance to parents and staff, after-school tutoring and homework assistance. Orrick managing director John MacKerron serves on the board of directors for The Children?s Storefront.
?The Men’s Mentoring Art Show allows the boys to see themselves and their artwork in a different social context, be articulate about ideas and choices they have made in the process of creating and hopefully experience pride and satisfaction in their accomplishments,? said Matthias Leutrum, art instructor for grades pre-k through eighth grade at The Children’s Storefront. ?The boys truly shine during the night of this event. We appreciate the support that Orrick has lent the school to make this event and other events possible.?
Orrick?s other offices also have been involved in community programs this year. In Silicon Valley, Orrick sponsored a charity auction for Students Rising Above, an organization dedicated to assisting disadvantaged students, and in San Francisco, the firm held a kite-flying event for the Bessie Carmichael Elementary School. Offices in the Pacific Northwest and Orange County have contributed to food banks, and in Los Angeles, lawyers and staff helped build homes for the needy.
