(WASHINGTON) February 6, 2005 – LAWFUEL – The Law News Network – DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary has announced that Frank Menaker has joined the firm as a partner in the Washington, D.C. office. He joins DLA Piper from Lockheed Martin Corp., one of the world’s largest aerospace and defense contractors, where he served as senior vice president and general counsel for 10 years.
“Frank brings nearly three decades of general counsel experience to the firm and is highly regarded by general counsels of American and international companies, which will assist us in growing our internal investigations, corporate governance and regulatory practices,” said DLA Piper’s Joint-Chief Executive Officer Francis B. Burch, Jr. “He will also assist in the strategic growth of our defense contracting practice.”

Menaker, 65, joined the former Martin Marietta Corporation in 1970 as assistant division counsel for aerospace operations, became assistant general counsel in 1973, and became general counsel of the aerospace operations in 1977. In 1981, he was appointed general counsel of Martin Marietta and was elected corporate vice president in 1982. When Martin Marietta and Lockheed Corporation merged in 1995, Menaker was named senior vice president and general counsel of Lockheed Martin Corporation.
Over the course of his career at Lockheed Martin and its predecessor, Menaker helped guide the company through a period of dramatic consolidation in the defense industry. Beginning with Martin Marietta’s successful “Pac Man” defense of Bendix Corporation’s attempted hostile takeover of Martin Marietta in 1982, Menaker has been at the center of some of the most celebrated and groundbreaking legal developments in history.
Menaker’s professional activities include serving as past chair and fellow of the ABA Public Contract Law Section, as a board member of the Atlantic Legal Foundation, and as an advisor to Human Rights First. He is a trustee of McDaniel College in Westminster, Md., and serves as a director of Martin Marietta Materials, Inc. of Raleigh, N.C. and North American Galvanizing & Coatings of Tulsa, Okla. Menaker is an emeritus member of the Association of General Counsel and a lifetime member of the Aerospace General Counsel Association.
A native of Harrisburg, Pa., Menaker graduated from Wilkes University and the Washington College of Law at American University.
