DENVER, CO – LAWFUEL – Press Release Service – Bill Leone, United States Attorney for the District of Colorado and Richard C. Powers, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Denver Division, announced that JASON PAUL CRAIG, age 31 years, of Steamboat Springs, was arrested this morning without incident at his residence on child pornography charges.
A federal grand jury returned a two count indictment on August 8, 2006 charging CRAIG with one count of distribution of child pornography, and one count of possession of child pornography.
On June 7, 2006, a federal search warrant was executed at his residence as part of the child pornography investigation. CRAIG was arrested at that time for possession of marijuana by the Steamboat Springs Police Department. FBI Agents seized the defendant’s computer. After a forensic evaluation of the computer, agents found that the defendant had allegedly distributed child pornography.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in connection with the Steamboat Springs Police Department.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Habib Nasrullah.
If convicted of distribution of child pornography, the defendant faces not less than 5 years and not more than 20 years in federal prison. If convicted of possession of child pornography, the defendant faces up to 10 years in federal prison, and/or a $250,000 fine.
These charges are only allegations and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
