Arnold & Porter has been named one of the “100 Best Companies to Work For” in 2004 by Fortune magazine. Making the select list for the second consecutive year, Arnold & Porter is one of only three law firms, and one of only two companies based in the Washington, D.C. area to be named. The firm moved up from number 60 on the list in 2003 to number 42 in 2004. The list is posted on Fortune’s web site and will be available in the January 12, 2004 issue of the magazine.

Arnold & Porter is widely recognized for its positive work environment, which includes a number of family-friendly policies. In 2003, Washingtonian magazine listed Arnold & Porter as one of the top law firms in Washington, D.C., in its “Great Places to Work” issue. The firm has been named to Working Mother magazine’s “100 Best Companies” list on four occasions and has been honored six times in the past five years by the Minority Corporate Counsel Association for its efforts to improve the recruitment, retention, and promotion of minority lawyers.

The Fortune list is compiled by the Great Place to Work Institute in San Francisco. Some 46,526 randomly selected employees from 304 candidate companies filled out an employee-opinion survey. Each candidate company also filled out a questionnaire detailing its policies, practices, and philosophies. Companies were evaluated on both the employee surveys and the company questionnaires, with the employees’ opinions accounting for two-thirds of the total score.
