ATLANTA November 5 2004 LAWFUEL – Law firm, law, legal news – Kilpatrick Stockton today announced that Counsel Mort Aronson has been honored by the Alumni of Emory Law School with an award created in his name to recognize students for their achievements and dedication to the franchising legal profession. In addition, this award recognizes Mr. Aronson, who is a professor of franchise law at Emory.

“Mort has served Emory Law School wonderfully for the last 10 years as a teacher of this important course. It is fitting that his grateful students have honored him in this way,” Dean Thomas Arthur said.

Aronson—counsel in the franchise group of Kilpatrick Stockton LLP, and former vice president and general counsel/franchising for the Holiday Inn hotel chain (which is part of the Intercontinental Hotels Group)–vowed to continue a strong teaching tradition at Emory. “I am deeply appreciative to my former students in showing their support of Emory Law School and their confidence in me by making contributions to the Franchise Law Student Award Fund named in my honor. I have thoroughly enjoyed and feel privileged to have taught at Emory Law School for 10 years and I consider my former students as part of my extended family. I look forward to continue teaching at Emory Law School,” he said.

William Estes ‘97L, said Aronson brings immeasurable enthusiasm to the classroom. “My most prominent memories of Professor Aronson are his energy and his interest in his students. I am particularly indebted to Mort because his class gave me the background I needed in my first job out of law school at the New York State Attorney General’s Office, where I brought enforcement cases against fraudulent franchisors,” he said.

Rosanne Patton, Director of Major Gifts at the law school, said she hopes the fund will persuade more students to explore franchise law. “We are so excited that by creating this fund we not only honor Professor Aronson’s commitment to teaching, but we also encourage law students to consider a career in the area of franchise law,” she said.
