Sydney, 23 December 2008. The shortlist for the 2008 Blake Dawson Prize for Business Literature has been announced by Blake Dawson and the State Library of New South Wales.
The $30,00 prize, launched in 2004, is acknowledged as being one of Australia’s most important awards for business writing, attracting entries covering a wide range of topics.
This year the judges – former Chief Judge of the NSW Land and Environment Court, Mahla Pearlman AO; Chairman of ASX Market Supervision Pty Ltd and Deputy Chancellor of the University of Sydney, Alan Cameron AM; General Counsel and Adjunct Professor in the Graduate School of Government at the University of Sydney, Richard Fisher AM; and George Maltby AO – selected four titles:
Bruce Dover – Rupert’s Adventures in China (Penguin)
Mal Harrop – Good Things Came from Glass (Melbourne University Press)
Margaret Simons – The Content Makers: Understanding the Media in Australia (Penguin) Leonie Wood – Funny Business: The Rise and Fall of Steve Vizard (Allen and Unwin)
In announcing the shortlist, Blake Dawson Chairman, Mary Padbury, said: “The Blake Dawson Prize was established to foster excellence in business and finance writing. The events of the past year demonstrate more than ever the importance of serious and considered writing on these topics. We are delighted with the role the Prize is playing in this regard.”

The winner of the 2008 Blake Dawson Prize for Business Literature will be announced at a special presentation dinner on Wednesday 25 March 2009.
