Baker & McKenzie announced today that Richard Lipton has been elected a Partner. Lipton’s practice focuses on tax planning and representation for partnerships, limited liability corporations and other pass-through entities and real estate transactions. Based in the Firm’s Chicago office, Lipton is a member of the North American and Global Tax Practices.

Lipton heads Baker & McKenzie’s Pass-Throughs Group. His practice also frequently includes providing counsel on real estate investment trusts (REITs) and investment in real estate by tax-exempt organizations and foreign investors, as well as the tax consequences of bankruptcies and workouts and various tax accounting issues. Lipton has practiced law for more than 25 years. He came to the Baker & McKenzie at the beginning of 2003 from McDermott, Will & Emery, and previously led the tax practice at Sonnenschein, Nath & Rosenthal.
He is the immediate past Chair of the ABA Section on Taxation and is the author of a treatise and over 100 articles on tax-related topics. He is a graduate of Amherst College and received his law degree from the University of Chicago.
