Bankruptcy attorney Jerry M. Markowitz named President of UM Law Alumni Association

2 June 2010 – Bankruptcy attorney Jerry M. Markowitz, J.D. ’74, has been named President of the University of Miami Law Alumni Association (LAA) for the 2010 – 2011 fiscal year. He previously served as President-elect, Vice President of Alumni Activities and Secretary of the LAA.
The LAA is a powerful national and global network. The Law School has over 19,000 alumni located throughout all 50 states and in over 66 countries, with over 11,000 in the state of Florida. The association’s main goal is to help strengthen the School’s position by supporting the Dean with fundraising, student recruitment and placement efforts.
A native of Miami, Markowitz is a partner of Markowitz, Davis, Ringel & Trusty, P.A. He is one of South Florida’s leading business and bankruptcy law practitioners. A frequent speaker and active community leader, he is a former president of the Bankruptcy Bar Association for the Southern District of Florida; a founding member and treasurer of the Florida Receivers Forum; the Southeast Regional Chair of the American Bar Institute Endowment fund; a former Vice Chair of the Florida Bar Association Grievance Committee and a founding sponsor of the Bankruptcy Bar Foundation of the Southern District of Florida. Since 1990, he has served as Chairman and Co-Chairman of the Continuing Legal Education Committee for the University of Miami Bankruptcy Skills Workshop.
