Two Attorneys Join the Dallas-Based Law Firm’s New Bankruptcy and IP Groups

DALLAS– LAWFUEL – The Legal Announcement Service – Hermes Sargent Bates, a Dallas-based law firm, recently added two new practices areas and welcomed two new attorneys to lead these groups. Joseph Acosta will lead its bankruptcy practice and Nhut Tan Tran will lead its intellectual property practice.

Acosta will lead the bankruptcy practice group, helping clients during all stages of the bankruptcy process, including pre-bankruptcy workouts and debt restructurings, plan negotiations, defense of creditors’ rights, restructuring of contracts, leases and licenses, prosecution of claims, and litigation in adversary proceedings. Prior to joining Hermes Sargent Bates, Acosta was a member of the corporate restructuring and bankruptcy department at Jones Day. He has a broad base of bankruptcy experience, having represented debtors, creditors’ committees, trustees, landlords, fraudulent conveyance defendants and other parties in interest in some of the largest Chapter 11 cases in the United States. Acosta has a B.A. from Emory University and a J.D. from the University of Houston. He is board certified in business bankruptcy by the American Board of Certification.

Tran is leading the firm’s newly formed intellectual property & technology transactions group. The practice group is focused in the areas of trademarks, copyrights, internet e-commerce, technology, privacy and advertising law. Tran has represented both large corporations and individual clients in trademark oppositions and prosecutions, copyright disputes, internet domain name conflicts, internet fraud and abuse, and intellectual property litigation. He has developed significant experience in advising and guiding state-of-the-art companies to remain competitive in the international world market. Prior to joining Hermes Sargent Bates, Tran practiced as a member of the intellectual property department in the firm formerly known as Godwin Gruber. Tran has his B.A. from the University of Texas at Arlington and his J.D. from the University of Texas, School of Law.
