Bill Abrams, Head of Pillsbury’s IP Litigation Group, Brings More Than 25 Years of Domestic and Cross-Border Experience to 110-Lawyer Team

Abrams, the former head of Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman’s Intellectual Property Litigation Team, has joined Bingham McCutchen as a partner in the Silicon Valley office. The addition of Mr. Abrams provides even greater depth to Bingham McCutchen’s national IP Group. The firm has more than 110 lawyers in a broad range of IP specialties, including patent litigation, copyright, trademark, trade dress, trade secrets, patent prosecution, patent interferences, and licensing and technology transactions.
Mr. Abrams is one of the few bona fide trial lawyers in the IP space. He has more than 25 years of experience handling a variety of intellectual property matters, both nationally and internationally, for a wide range of clients that include Stanford University and various public and private companies. Mr. Abrams’ clients have encompassed a wide range of industries nationally, including computer, electrical and life sciences. In addition to handling the full range of intellectual property matters, he also works on constitutional/appellate law issues. In the recently released Chambers USA 2006: America’s Leading Business Lawyers, Mr. Abrams was noted as “a wizard of the patent Bar” by his clients as well as a “courageous litigator who understands both the broader picture and the social context surrounding issues.”

In addition to his IP litigation practice, Mr. Abrams handles various pro bono matters and is currently representing two death row inmates in Alabama. Mr. Abrams is also a member of the Stanford University faculty, where he teaches courses on children’s legal issues and the death penalty, and is a faculty undergraduate honors advisor. He earned his A.B., with honors, from Stanford University and his J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law, where he was Managing Editor of the Santa Clara Law Review.
