Allen + Overy advised the managers of the inaugural issue backed by the Islamic Development Bank, a supranational institution established by member countries of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference. The firm acted for Citibank Global Markets Limited (as lead manager), Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank PJSC and Kuwait Finance House (as co-lead managers) and HSBC Bank Plc and Nomura International Plc (as managers). The transaction represents a genuine first of its type for Islamically compliant securities involving multiple assets. It builds on the innovative issue of US$600 million Trust certificates due 2007 by Malaysia Global Sukuk Ltd backed by an Islamic sale and leaseback transaction undertaken by the Government of Malaysia in 2002.
