Kilpatrick Stockton Partner and Former U.S. Congressman Elliott Levitas Receives Thomas B. Murphy Lifetime Achievement Award

Murphy Lifetime Achievement Award from the Democratic Party of Georgia at the 2008 Jefferson-Jackson Dinner held on January 30. The Democratic Party of Georgia honored “hardworking Democrats” from Georgia's 13 congressional districts for the second annual Lifetime Achievement Awards. Mr. Levitas received the award for the 4th Congressional District. Individuals who received the award were described as “Democrats who have spent a lifetime in the political trenches, organizing voters, enacting change, and blazing a trail for later generations to follow.” Also, Mr. Levitas will be moderating a panel discussion called “What to Expect after ‘Super-size Tuesday”, which will be held at noon on February 21 at the Commerce Club in Atlanta. The panel will discuss the consequences of these important primary elections. Mr. Levitas was a member of the Georgia House of Representatives where he managed the legislation that created Georgia's Department of Natural Resources, and from 1975 to 1985, he represented Georgia's 4th Congressional District. In Congress, Mr. Levitas was active in the legislative revisions of the Clean Air and Water Acts, enactment of the Superfund Law, and in revisions to RCRA, FIFRA and TSCA.
