(LAWFUEL) – Leading law firm Buddle Findlay has been declared this year’s New Zealand tax controversy firm of the year in the prestigious International Tax Review’s Asia Awards.
The magazine’s annual awards are given across 11 jurisdictions in the Asia Pacific Region: Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan and Thailand.
Tax controversy awards are based on a firm’s expertise in the areas of tax disputes, audits and investigations and the quality of its preparation, documentation for conferences with the IRD, adjudications and court work.
Nominees for the New Zealand Tax Controversy Firm of the Year award were Buddle Findlay, Bell Gully, Kensington Swan and PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Neil Russ, leader of Buddle Findlay’s tax practice, today welcomed the international recognition flowing from the award.
“This award reflects our clients’ faith in our well-researched, commercially sensible approach to dealing with tax issues.
“We see ourselves as different from other tax advisers, in our use of our tax team’s work in the area of corporate and international tax issues and the structuring of major corporate transactions.

He says that with the addition of Alexandra Low as a senior associate, the firm has centralised its tax team at its Auckland office and strengthened its expertise in multi-banking and capital markets transactions.
The award was presented to the firm at a dinner held in the Fullerton Hotel in Singapore last night (Wednesday 26 November).
