Burton M. Leibert Joins Stroock’s Investment Management Practice

October 1, 2010 … New York, NY … Stroock & Stroock & Lavan LLP, a national law firm with offices in New York, Los Angeles and Miami, announced the addition of Burton M. Leibert as a Partner in the Investment Management Practice Group in New York, effective immediately.

Mr. Leibert was a partner in the Asset Management Group of Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP in New York from which he recently retired. Prior to joining Willkie, Mr. Leibert served at the United States Securities and Exchange Commission in various positions including Assistant Director of the Division of Investment Management. Mr. Leibert was also counsel for ERISA Regulation and Fiduciary Responsibility at the United States Department of Labor.

He specializes in securities law and investment management, and formerly chaired Willkie’s investment company and investment management practice group. He was also a member of Willkie’s Executive Compensation and Employee Benefits Department, concentrating on ERISA fiduciary matters.

Mr. Leibert devotes much time to the representation of investment company trustees. Other significant matters included his work on combinations of investment companies, issuance of preferred stock by closed-end investment companies to achieve leverage, and the development of a manager-of-managers structure. He was called upon to lead the investigation with respect to “market timing” and “late trading” in shares of Bank of America’s Nations Funds (mutual funds) on behalf of the fund’s independent trustees.
