The Head of Legal Services reports to the General Manger Secretariat and Group Monitoring and is responsible for leading the team that provides critical legal advice and representation services to Te Runanga o Ngai Tahu, its subsidiaryes and trible entities. This senior role is focused upon the provision of leadership to the legal team, who provide advice on diverse and challenging areas covering legal compliance through to the protection and enhancement of a wide range of rights and interests arising out of the Ngai Tahu Deed of Settlement. The successful candidate will devise and lead litigation strategies, audi compliance and ensure dispute resolution solutions of the highest quality are initiatied. They will also be responsible for managing the procurement of external legal services.

To excel in this position you will need at least seven ot ten year’s senior legal experience, in addition a tertiary qualification in law and ideally an associated discipline (eg environment, public policy, resource management) would be advantageous. Knowledge and experience working with legal issues that affect a large Iwi organisation and its members would also be preferable.
