Chicago – LAWFUEL – Law firm, legal, attorney news – Foley & Lardner LLP announced today that Stephen P. Bedell has joined the Firm as a partner in the Litigation Department in its Chicago office. Bedell, 50, will focus his practice on financial markets and financial services litigation as a member of the Firm’s Securities Litigation, Enforcement and Regulation Practice Group.

Prager, managing partner of Foley & Lardner’s Chicago office. “Steve is one of the most seasoned financial markets litigators in the city and will add substantial depth to our nationally recognized securities and financial markets practices.”
Before joining Foley & Lardner, Bedell was chair of the Securities and Financial Markets Litigation practice at Gardner Carton & Douglas. In his almost 25 years of practice, Bedell has represented a diverse array of clearing firms, futures commission merchants, hedge funds, banks, broker-dealers, investment advisors and specialists in every industry arbitration forum and numerous state and federal trial and appellate courts, including the United States Supreme Court. Recently, he successfully defended a federal class action lawsuit on behalf of a number of futures commission merchants which arose out of a $25 million loss attributable to an alleged unregistered commodity pool. In addition, Bedell has represented clients in a wide array of Securities and Exchange Commission, Commodity Futures Trading Commission and self-regulatory organization investigations and enforcement proceedings.

Bedell received his J.D. from the Northwestern University School of Law and earned an H.A.B. with honors from Xavier University. He has served on the advisory committees of the Chicago Board Options Exchange and National Futures Association relating to financial markets litigation issues. Between 1985 and 1995, he served as a member of the Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission. While in law school, Bedell was articles editor of the Northwestern Journal of International Law and Business.
