Clifford Chance Advises Chinese Internet Entertainment Company and Everbright on Sports & Media Deal

Leading international law firm Clifford Chance has advised Baofeng, a Chinese internet entertainment and technology company and Everbright, a major Chinese financial services company in their successful bid through the Shanghai Jinxin investment fund to acquire a majority stake in MP & Silva Holding SA. MP& Silva is a leading international sports media rights group with a large portfolio of sports media rights including Europe’s top leagues in football, Grand Slam tennis, motor racing and the National Football League.

This partnership will provide MP & Silva with additional financial resources to accelerate international growth particularly in the rapidly growing and increasingly important Chinese market and build on over a decade of success. Additionally, MP & Silva will have access to new and exciting technology, such as virtual reality and internet-based services, that are transforming the delivery of sports events and content.

The transaction adds to the number of leading transactions in international sports on which the Clifford Chance TMT practice has advised including our role as the Official Law Firm for the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

The cross-border Clifford Chance team that advised on the bid was led by the London TMT team composed of Daniel Sandelson (partner and head of media), Jennifer Mbaluto (senior associate), Brian Harley (senior associate) and Jamie Andrew (associate), working closely with a Corporate team in Beijing composed of Terence Foo (partner) and Bernard Cheng (associate).

Clifford Chance also worked closely with Baofeng’s and Everbright’s financial advisers DG Capital and Chinese investment bank CICC.
