Leading international law firm Clifford Chance today opens applications for its annual, global United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) Award, with the objective of supporting educational focused non-profit organisations. The award is aligned with the United Nations’ SDGs, which are also the key focus of Clifford Chance’s wider pro bono and community outreach efforts and philanthropy. As with last year, the winning organisation will receive £50,000 and 500 pro bono hours.
This year, the award is focusing on SDG 4, which is to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education, and to promote lifelong learning opportunities for all. The award is open to Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and educational institutions around the world, including schools and universities, whose work is aligned with SDG 4.
The judges are particularly interested in award submissions that demonstrate a commitment to innovative approaches towards the achievement of SDG 4, and those which show potential to be replicated and scaled. Entries will be reviewed by the same criteria irrespective of the entrant’s size, geographical location, or previous interaction with Clifford Chance.
Environmental protection charity Plan Vivo was the recipient of last year’s award which focused on environmental causes. Clifford Chance’s pro bono support and funding is currently helping Plan Vivo to work on several key areas, including biodiversity standards and carbon rights, as well as a review of its commercial agreements and marketing strategy.

The winner will be chosen by a judging panel led by Jeroen Ouwehand, head of the Clifford Chance ESG board. The panel will also feature Tom Dunn, global pro bono and community director, other Clifford Chance partners and representatives from the firm’s strategic pro bono partners and clients.
