Continuing Project Safe Neighborhood Effort

OAKLAND – LAWFUEL – Law News Network – United States Attorney Kevin V. Ryan announced that Isaias Sambrano Barajas, a/k/a “Chayo,” 23, of Bay Point, California, was sentenced late Friday, August 25, 2006, to 105 months (8.75 years) in prison for possessing nine firearms and multiple rounds of ammunition after he had been convicted of various felonies. This sentence is the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation; Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives; and the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Department.

This prosecution is part of an ongoing effort by the United States Attorney’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms, under the federal Project Safe Neighborhoods program, to assist local law enforcement to in an effort to decrease firearm-related violence by cracking down on those who possess firearms or ammunition in violation of federal law.

Mr. Barajas, pleaded guilty on June 2, 2006, to one count of being a felon in possession of firearms. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Court Judge Martin J. Jenkins. Judge Jenkins also sentenced the defendant to a 3 year period of supervised release. The defendant was immediately remanded into custody.
