DLA Piper Energy Deal Receives MIREC Project of the Yer Award

May 24, 2019 – DLA Piper is pleased to announce that the firm represented Acciona Energía and Grupo BioFields, now known as Grupo Alego, global energy companies operating in the renewable energy sector, in their strategic financing of Puerto Libertad, a transaction that recently received MIREC’s Project of the Year award for 2019.

With 405 megawatts of peak power (MWp), Puerto Libertad is one of the highest capacity photovoltaic plants in Mexico and Latin America. The facility is located in the state of Sonora in Mexico. Lenders include the North American Development Bank (NADB), Banco Nacional de Obras y Servicios de México (BANOBRAS), Instituto de Crédito Oficial de España (ICO) and Banco SABADELL.

The DLA Piper team involved in the transaction was led by partner Edgar Romo (Mexico City) and included partners Gerardo Lozano and Marcelo Paramo (both of Mexico City); and associates Manuel Hallivis and Manuel Suárez (both of Mexico City).

The MIREC (Mexican International Renewable Energy Congress) Awards celebrate partnerships between technology companies, developers, innovators, financiers and broader industry players in the Mexican renewable energy and sustainability industry. The Project of the Year award recognizes a building-integrated, on-site or stand-alone project located in Mexico that has pushed the boundaries of excellence in the renewable/clean energy industry.
