October 31, 2016 – DLA Piper is pleased to announce that Jim Halpert, Washington, DC based co-chair of the firm’s US Cybersecurity and Global Data Protection, Privacy and Security practices, has been named toThe National Law Journal’s list of Cybersecurity and Data Privacy Trailblazers. The annual list recognizes professionals who have made significant contributions in the field of cybersecurity.
Halpert was selected for his leadership as one the visionaries behind DLA Piper’s subsidiary, Blue Edge Lab, which leverages technology to deliver innovative solutions to multinational companies seeking cost efficiencies, risk mitigation, and counsel on complex business issues. Blue Edge Lab, along with its partner the Internet Security Alliance, is a market leader with the launch of its inaugural product, CyberTrak, a highly innovative online cybersecurity tool featuring information on cybersecurity-related mandates in 23 key markets around the world.
Halpert focuses his practice on compliance and risk management strategies for transactions relating to transnational, federal and state security and privacy regulations, industry best practices and self-regulatory initiatives, and has represented clients in major security and privacy cases in the federal courts and before the Federal Trade Commission. He has counseled clients regarding responses to more than 275 data security breaches since 2005 and has developed a breach response protocol.
Halpert helped negotiate and draft many of the federal laws that govern e-commerce and use of the Internet, including the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, the CAN-SPAM Act, USA Patriot Act, Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, and Communications Decency Act.
