ESG Law News – Fieldfisher publishes its first ESG report

The inaugural internal audit and performance statement for the firm’s UK offices outlines Fieldfisher’s commitment to environmental, social and corporate governance in 2021 as it looks to increase its ESG service lines.

European law firm Fieldfisher has published its first ever environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) report, covering the firm’s ESG performance, activities and aims across its UK offices (London, Birmingham, Manchester and Belfast).

Commenting on the publication of the report, Fieldfisher’s Managing Partner Michael Chissick said:

After many years of quietly working towards better ESG for the firm and our profession, we have now consolidated our ESG activities into a single, concise report to share with clients and our people.

We are acutely aware that our continued success as a firm is not an entitlement, but a reflection of the trust our clients and our people place in us.

We want to help preserve and build that trust by communicating our approach to ESG and our plans for the future in these areas.

The last year has been a landmark period for legislative responses to the issues of climate change, social inequality and corporate transparency. Momentum on these and other ESG issues will continue to build and accelerate.

Clients are increasingly showing us the path they want us to tread as their strategic legal advisers. I want all our stakeholders to be confident that our advice comes from a sound ethical position, especially as we are increasingly being asked to advise on ESG-type issues.

While our initial report is focused on the UK, we are first and foremost a European law firm, with more than 1,700 people in 25 offices across 11 countries. We aim to extend our reporting to cover ESG activities across our organisation from next year.

This report is a frank acknowledgement that while we are proud to be a principled, progressive law firm when it comes to ESG, we still have more to do. I am confident that ESG will continue to shape our future and optimistic that we will continue to be among the leaders of change in our profession.”

The report will be available to all Fieldfisher clients and staff. A copy will be published on the firm’s website and is expected to become a document routinely used in UK pitches, bids and panel appointments.
