Eversheds advises on £500M Thames Gateway regeneration scheme

LawFuel.com – 3 December 2009 – International law firm Eversheds is advising Thurrock Thames Gateway Development Corporation on a £500M proposal for a regeneration scheme to transform the heart of Purfleet in the Thames Gateway which has received the “green light” from the Department of Communities and Local Government. Funded through a joint public/private partnership, the scheme would see the development of a new town centre along with up to 3,500 new homes and more than a thousand new jobs created in the area.

The planned redevelopment of the Essex town is the latest part of the Government’s Thames Gateway programme and would also provide a new school health centre, a new employment area, improved station and transport links and better access to the river front.

Simon de Vere leading the project for the Corporation commented:

“This scheme is a major development in the social, economic and structural well-being of Purfleet and the Thames Gateway region as a whole. The Eversheds team has been central to the success of bringing this proposal to fruition and has been invaluable in providing robust, pragmatic and skilled advice across the range of issues that a scheme of this scope and magnitude brings. A very impressive team with genuine leaders in their field.”

Leading the Eversheds team, Regeneration and Development partner Paul Hothi adds:

“We are very excited to be working on this pivotal scheme for the Corporation. The Eversheds’ team has built up market leading knowledge in the regeneration sector over the last decade and in these difficult times for the real estate industry clients are looking for teams which will not be learning on their time and can hit the ground running. Our team spans a range of disciplines required in any complex regeneration project including State aid, Procurement, Tax, CPO, Planning and Construction. We are looking forward to working with Thurrock over the next 15 years on this significant project.”
