(LAWFUEL) – Mike Aitken, a former partner at Minter Ellison, has joined Duncan Cotterill in Sydney as Special Counsel.
The appointment of highly-respected Aitken is a coup for Duncan Cotterill, whose boutique Sydney office is building an impressive line-up of well-known senior practitioners.
Aitken has been practising tax law since 1982, initially at Hungerfords (now part of KPMG), and subsequently as a partner at both Blake Dawson and Minter Ellison, before joining Duncan Cotterill.
He specialises in all aspects of corporate and commercial revenue law advice and litigation. Aitken has extensive experience in handling disputes with revenue authorities and in the conduct of revenue litigation in State and Federal Courts, and in the High Court of Australia.
Aitken is the current Australian editor of the United Kingdom publication International Tax Systems and Planning Techniques published by Sweet and Maxwell.
Chief executive Janice Fredric said Duncan Cotterill was thrilled to attract the services of Aitken, whose specialisation in taxation law is a valuable complement not only to the firm’s Sydney office but also to its developing trans-Tasman tax practice.
“We are still very much in a growth phase in Sydney but we are certainly finding that substantial commercial clients are enjoying dealing with a boutique style office that still has the capacity to provide comprehensive service,” Fredric said.
