Famed Lawyer F Lee Bailey Suffers Maine Setback to Law Practise

LawFuel.com – F Lee Bailey, once one of the most famed criminal attorneys in the United States, is not permitted to practice law in Maine after a ruling from the State of Maine Board of Bar Examiners.

Bailey, who represented everyone from the Boston Strangler to O J Simpson, was deemed not to have proven that he “possesses the requisite good character and fitness necessary for admission to the Maine Bar,” according to news reports.

The lawyer was licensed to practice law in Massachusetts and Florida but was disbarred in the early 2000s for his mishandling $6 million in stock for a client.

Following that matter he spent nearly six weeks in federal prison for the misconduct and had to repay millions of dollars.

The Maine decision came in a 5-to-4 ruling that pointed to a Maine Bar rule that requires the state to treat a lawyer who had been disbarred in any state “as if the attorney has been disbarred also in Maine.”
