(February 21, 2006, New York) – LAWFUEL – The Law News Network – Reed Smith LLP, a top-25 international law firm, today announced the addition of Gregory S. Shatan as its newest IP transactional partner. Mr. Shatan will be resident in the firm’s New York office, effective immediately.

“Greg is an excellent addition our growing New York office,“ said David M. Grimes, Reed Smith’s New York Market Managing Partner. “His arrival gives us a level of experience in IP corporate matters that will help us achieve several important strategic goals. In addition, he will strengthen our active trademark and advertising group here. We are glad his quest for a firm with a growing corporate presence in which to expand his IP transactional practice attracted him to Reed Smith.”

Mr. Shatan was previously a partner at Winston & Strawn LLP, New York. At Reed Smith, he will work closely with John J. Altorelli, Mark G. Pedretti and Thomas L. Fairfield, three partners who joined the firm’s New York corporate practice from Paul Hastings last September.

“Reed Smith provides me with an exciting platform upon which I can build a solid IP practice linked to business transactions,” Mr. Shatan said. “I anticipate there will be many synergies with the efforts of John, Mark, Tom and others who handle mergers and acquisitions and other transactions every year involving IP assets, including deals where a company’s intellectual property is the primary asset driving the transaction.”

In addition to a breadth and depth of experience in the intellectual property and technology aspects of mergers and acquisitions, financings, IPOs, private placements and restructurings, Mr. Shatan has substantial experience in transactions and counseling involving intellectual property, technology, software and Internet issues. In the past several years, he has provided strategic IP support on deals involving a wide range of companies and industries, including financial service providers, technology companies, publishers and consumer goods manufacturers. During the same period, he also has handled trademark and copyright protection and enforcement matters for major manufacturers, retailers, financial services companies, insurance companies and real estate advisors.

Mr. Shatan received his J.D. in 1986 from Columbia University Law School, where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar and editor-in-chief of the Columbia – VLA Journal of Law & the Arts. He received his undergraduate degree in 1981 from Wesleyan University. Prior to joining Winston & Strawn, Mr. Shatan spent a decade at Morgan Lewis and was an associate at Weil Gotshal for eight years following his graduation from law school.
