Fish & Richardson announced that noted local venture capital attorney Jonathan Aberman has joined the firm’s Washington, DC office as a principal. Aberman, who was previously Chair of Fenwick & West’s Washington, DC office, will lead the expansion of Fish & Richardson’s growing Corporate and Securities practice in the Washington, DC market. The Corporate and Securities practice is relatively new to Fish & Richardson, which is the only law firm with a truly national intellectual property practice. The firm started its Corporate and Securities practice in 2000 in response to client demand. The Washington, DC office is the firm’s second largest. It opened in 1989 and has a legal staff of 50

Aberman represents a wide range of clients. Among his local venture captial clients are Carlyle Ventures, Toucan Capital and Telecommunications Development Fund. Examples of his technology company clients are Landmat International, Xlipstream Corporation, Steele Technologies, TEOCO and Entrieva. He is also a widely recognized leader of the DC region’s life science community.
Aberman earned his undergraduate degree from George Washington University and a master’s degree in Economics with distinction from the London School of Economics. He earned two law degrees with honors from Cambridge University and a master’s degree in Corporate Law from New York University. He is admitted to the bar in the District of Columbia and New York. He is on the Governor’s Advisory Board for the Virginia Biotechnology Initiative and chair of the BioMedTech Committee of the Northern Virginia Technology Council.
