Gallop Attorney Johnny S. Wang Presentation Focuses on Educators’ Concerns

MARCH 9, 2012, St. Louis, Missouri…A detailed presentation on labor and employment legal issues by Gallop attorney Johnny S. Wang scored an A+ with more than 125 officials from 61 Missouri school districts who attended an AAIM Employers’ Association training event for the Cooperating School Districts of Greater St. Louis (CSD) on March 9 at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri.

Mr. Wang said, “In this current economy, with potential layoffs and workforce reductions, school districts need to become better educated about wage-and-hour medical leave compliance issues across the nation to minimize their litigation risk and provide a safe environment for their employees.”

Mr. Wang’s in-depth, three-hour presentation on the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) focused on a full spectrum of legal issues that school administrators, education managers and supervisors may encounter with employees, and compliance obligations under the law.

Issues that Mr. Wang focused on include FMLA coverage timelines; school holiday or shutdown periods; overtime; leave health benefits; health conditions; healthcare provider issues; disability issues; leave notice requirements; “Rights & Responsibilities” guidelines; absences and notifications; paid leave benefits; medical certifications; nondiscrimination regulations; employment and benefits protections; fitness for duty; recordkeeping requirements; terminating employees; workman’s compensation; and difficult issues such as substance abuse and same-sex marriages.

Mr. Wang is an associate in Gallop’s Labor & Employment Law Department who focuses his practice in areas that include Defense of Discrimination Claims; Non-Competition, Non-Solicitation and Confidentiality Agreements; ERISA Claims; Civil Litigation and related labor and employment legal matters.
