Type “how to get out of jury duty” into Google and you’ll get more than ten million hits, including videos, step-by-step guides, pictures and scripts. Getting out of jury duty has become a badge of honor, as if we need to show our friends that we were smart enough to ‘crack the code’ and escape. This perception needs to change or else the jury system may go extinct.
There’s a growing movement that involves both consumer attorneys and the business community to preserve the Seventh Amendment right to the civil jury trial. For the first time, judges, legal leaders and business heavyweights are coming together at a public town hall meeting in an effort to educate and mobilize citizens in the fight to save our jury system.
The event is happening at 1:30pm on Friday, November 18, 2016 at McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento.
