Gilbert + Tobin, the leading Australian transaction and regulatory law firm has poached a corporate partner from rival Squire Patton Boggs for its Perth office.

Gilbert + Tobin has appointed Simon Rear who joined as a Partner in the Perth Corporate Advisory team on June 1, 2022.
Simon joins G+T from Squire Patton Boggs where he was a partner in their Corporate Group since 2014. His practice encompasses regulated M&A and Equity Capital Markets, private M&A (including distressed M&A) and Debt Capital Markets. Additionally, he assists clients with corporate advisory and governance (including advising boards on solvency issues, safe harbour and other corporate governance matters), ASX Listing Rule advisory work, contentious shareholder meetings (including defending and requisitioning), joint ventures and shareholder arrangements and advising creditors in distressed situations.
Simon’s client base is synergistic with the G+T Perth client base, with clients primarily in the natural resources sector, but also in the property, construction, fin-tech and technology sectors.
Partner Justin Mannolini said that the G+T Perth team were excited by the very high degree of practice and cultural alignment between Simon and G+T. “He is a highly respected member of the profession, and his appointment will no doubt bring further bench strength to our corporate advisory offering in the Perth market.”
Simon will be also joining with a Senior Associate from Squire Patton Boggs, Michael Van Der Ende who will be working alongside the Corporate Advisory team with partners Justin Mannolini and Sarah Turner. Michael has worked closely with Simon Rear on a range of corporate transactions, with a focus on M&A and debt and equity capital markets work.
