Holland & Knight LLP today announced that Neal N. Beaton, a prominent attorney practicing in the areas of corporate and commercial transactions, intellectual property, international trade and business immigration law, has been named Practice Group Leader for the Business Law Practice Group in New York. In addition to this new position, Beaton will continue with his responsibilities as firmwide International Business Team Leader.
Beaton is experienced in mergers and acquisitions (particularly on behalf of non-U.S. parties); venture capital and minority investments; licensing, joint development and other technology agreements; trademark and copyright protection; antitrust compliance; and corporate and visa planning. He has been particularly active in representing Finnish and Japanese clients. Among the transactions he has handled are Japan Tobacco Inc.’s $8 billion acquisition of RJR International in 1999 (the largest acquisition to date by a Japanese corporation outside Japan) and numerous acquisitions and other transactions on behalf of Nokia Corporation and others in fields such as wireless equipment and biotech.
Beaton received his bachelor’s degree magna cum laude from Harvard College in 1975. He earned his law degree cum laude from Harvard Law School in 1978.
